New Orleans Isn't all Mansions and Creole Cottages
We also have a collection of Midcentury Gems!
From the Times Picayune/Nola.com article about us, Love midcentury modern style? Check out this New Orleans group that celebrates the architecture:
Midcentury architecture, popular from the 1940s to the mid-1970s, focused on minimalist design, open spaces and a connection to nature.
At the humble end of the midcentury genre is the ranch house. Nine out of 10 homes built in the 1950s fall into this category. The homes are characterized by an asymmetrical one-story shape, an open floor plan, a low-pitched roof with wide eaves and broad façades.
At the loftier end of the spectrum is the midcentury modern aesthetic in which the scale is more dramatic and the integration of outdoor spaces via large windows and glass walls is more pronounced.
Cantilevered balconies and decks are standard, as are geometric shapes and the use of stone and natural wood, as well as custom-designed, often built-in, furniture.

About Us
MIDCENTURY IN NEW ORLEANS is the brainchild of Janice Hall. Originally from Chicago, Janice was always surrounded by fabulous architecture. In fact, her first job was in a building designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. But it wasn’t until moving to Palm Springs, California that her passion…or is it an obsession?...with Midcentury architecture was born. Having owned an art gallery on North Palm Canyon Drive, smack dab in the middle of the downtown area, Janice was exposed to everything Midcentury, including how Palm Springs celebrates this design era with enthusiasm. And then a move to New Orleans took Janice by surprise. While she had spent years visiting the Crescent City, her time was spent in The French Quarter, Warehouse District, Arts District and Garden District. It was after having purchased a 1963 Ranch at the Lakefront, Janice’s eyes were opened to the vast collection of Midcentury Gems. Janice proceeded to create a Facebook page to “spread the word”, and within a short period of time her page grew to thousands of enthusiasts. Since that time, events have been created such as Midcentury home tours and a Cocktail Club, where members can gather monthly on a social basis. Future events include a Tiki Party and a Chef’s Wine Pairing Dinner for a limited number of people inside a Midcentury home. Event announcements will be sent out to secure your seat for the Chef Dinners, so stay tuned!
